Hey all! Yesterday, I was totally without access to the internet, cable, or local phone service due to heavy thunderstorm activity the night before ( I would have been without power as well, but fortunately, I have a generator!). In fact, most of the area was without power until late afternoon or evening. I was praying I wouldn’t have to miss more than one day of class, and lo’ and behold, when I woke up this morning, my internet was working! Picture in your mind – a short, squatty body doing a happy dance – that would be me! 🙂
However, I did not let a day without internet or cable keep me from being crafty! I had been thinking about the the lesson on color blocking with die cuts from Week 3, Day 2 – demonstrated by the fabulous Betsy Veldman – and I created the following card –
I started out with three sheets of patterned paper from The Paper Studio Adhesive Simplicity 4.5″ x 6.5″ Paper Pack (Hobby Lobby) – a brown herringbone pattern, a purple damask pattern, and a light blue/white pattern paper. I created a card base in the shape of a circle with a Spellbinders Circle die. I color blocked the front of the card with the purple damask and brown herringbone papers — however, when I put the unbrella against the background – it was too much pattern! So, I softened the background with a pastel blue vellum — you can still see the patterns through the vellum – nicely subtle! I use the blue patterned paper for the clouds and the “base” of the umbrella top – where I also used the background papers in the small sections of the top — essentially color blocking the umbrella top! lol
The umbrella dies and the sentiment are from My Favorite Things Umbrella and Die set. The clouds were cut with Papertrey Ink’s Cloud 1 & 2 dies. The blue vellum is from Grafix and was dry embossed with a Sizzix Dots embossing folder.
Since I need to catch up with yesterday’s and today’s lessons and homework – and get the laundry done – I had better bust a move! 🙂 Hugs!
