Many challenge blogs exist on the internet for cardmakers, scrapbookers and paper artists. When you find a challenge, I suggest looking at all the entries. Many artists will combine multiple challenges – which are mentioned in the description of the entry. Generally, it is a requirement of a challenge to post a link back to the challenge in the description of the entry so others may participate. Please be sure to leave a comment when you view someone’s creative effort – everyone likes to be appreciated and most will return the favor when you post!
Participating in challenges on a regular basis is a great way to exercise your creative thinking and see what other new items and techniques are available. It’s also a great way to build your “stash” of supplies as many of the challenges have prizes! I’ve also found that crafters are very happy to share with you what they know, where they found an item, or how to do a particular technique — all you have to do is ask!
If you’ve never entered a challenge before, it’s pretty easy to start. First, set up a FREE account to upload your pictures – I suggest setting up a Flickr gallery or a Splitcoaststamper’s gallery – or both! For Flickr, here is a recent YouTube video that steps you through setting up a Flickr account – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P4AIdS7X_RU . After setting up your account, here is a YouTube video stepping you through uploading a photo to your Flickr account https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EQmvffHqtX8 . Several stamping companies, for example – Hero Arts, have their own Flickr galleries so it is easy to add your picture to their Flickr group if you already have a Flickr account. For setting up and uploading to http://www.splitcoaststampers.com, there are instructions at http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/help/ . Many stamping/paper/scrapbooking companies have regular contests and new release parties (showcasing new products) on splitcoaststampers.
So what to do with the multitude of cards you make? For the extra ones not sent to family and friends – I send to Operation Write Home. You can find the details here – http://operationwritehome.org/. It’s a great way to support our men and women fighting to keep us safe! Additionally, many of the blogs I shared will have card drives for special causes. So never fear, your creations will find a good home!
It’s important to note that you should read the guidelines for entries for each blog. Some require certain products to be used – others do not. If you’re afraid of having your worked judged – don’t be! Many of the challenge winners are picked via a random number generator – you just have to enter! Enjoy!
